Gaming Microphone/Feedback/Background Suppression Issues:

Recommended Posts

AimlessMoto

So, playing around on my new PC and jumping into CS:GO and PUBG... everyone has complained that my mic sounds like it's in a wind tunnel, even when I'm not talking.

I went into my sound properties, and hit "Listen to Device" and sure enough, my headset mic is picking up EVERYTHING BUT my voice... my keyboard strokes, mouse clicks, kids upstairs, the cat, the fan in my PC... EVERYTHING.

So... WTF right? The Headset I was using was a Logitech H390... pretty basic USB headset.

So I bought a new one, a Logitech H540 with "noise cancelling microphone".   Well, same exact problem. Picks up literally everything.

Is there a setting I'm missing or should I just swap over to using a standard microphone plugged into a jack?

Turn the Mic Volume itself down in windows (This is always a great place to start). Ensure you have the proper software installed as well for your headset. Use PTT in games if you don't plan on using an external software for noise cancellation. Most all decent mics will pick up background noise as most noise cancellation is done in the post through your apps. Discord, Teamspeak, Nvidia Broadcast. etc. etc.

I had similar issues and thought it was a grounding issue for months.  Wired new ground to my home to no avail.  Finally just came to the conclusion that my room I game in is absolutely atrocious for audio.

Bare wood floors, front porch style windows on all sides, wood slat walls on one side, wood paneling on 3 sides, and two solid wood kitchen tables for desks.

Software filtering and years of telling folks to turn me up and deal with it were only finally solved by Nvidia Broadcast on my 3080 filtering it all out with ease.  Even went to my Blue Yeti I threw in a drawer 3 years ago.

Good luck!
