Chapter 4: Defying the Odds Update #1.1 (Hotfix)

Recommended Posts

Hi folks -

Tomorrow, we’ll be deploying a Hotfix across all 3 platforms to address critical issues that emerged following last weeks update. In this post you'll find a summary of what we've been able to fix, and what we're still working on, the patch notes in full from Jaqub and the development team, and detail on when to expect the update relative to your platform and timezone.

What’s fixed?

This update looks to significantly reduce the number of stability issues experienced on Xbox, and rectify the Hit Registration issues that have been experienced across all platforms. During testing, we discovered that Hit Registration wasn’t only impacting Planes, but all aspects of combat in the game, and this update should restore it back to a healthy state.

In addition to this, we were also able to include a simple fix that restores functionality to Face Paints. This was a quick configuration change that requires a client side update, but one that we were able to both identify, implement, and verify with minimal effort so we’ve opted to include it here rather than save it for a future update.

What’s not fixed?

We’re still investigating potential fixes for the ‘Invisible Soldier’ issue that appeared with the recent updates. Originally we believed that this was caused by faulty customization options, however after extensive testing we’ve learned that this is a purely random occurrence that exists on the client side only, and whilst harmful to the gameplay experience, it’s something that we’re confident isn’t something that’s able to be intentionally exploited by players.

We believe that this is caused by an engine issue that prevents the client from rendering the needed texture files, and isn’t consistent across all players on the server. Whilst it may be that you’re attacked by an Invisible Soldier, it’s every bit as likely that your Squad Mates are indeed seeing the opposing player correctly, and better able to identify the threat and engage. This remains a priority for us to resolve in our next update.

The stability issues affecting Al Sundan on Conquest have otherwise been resolved, however through fixing this we’ve discovered a graphical corruption (Artifacting) that we’re not happy with. We’re continuing to work on this one and will keep you updated this month. This won’t impact our intent to deliver Marita to you this month, and we’re working to get you out on the full version of Al Sundan as soon as possible.

On behalf of the Battlefield team, thanks for your patience whilst we resolved these issues. Updates on additionally tracked issues are available here.

Update Notes

Hello Battlefield™ V players!

This update is a smaller Hotfix which addresses a few critical issues that were introduced with the previous update.

Change list:

  • Fix for hit registration which was the most noticeable when using airplanes. Players should see improvements across the entire game, as we have learned that this was affecting all Vehicles and Infantry under certain circumstances.

  • Face paints for the Axis male soldiers are once again functional

  • Stability improvements to the game client

Please note that we are aware of additional issues that you have reported, and we have a list of issues that we have prioritized here.

Still fun for me.  No matter what game I play now, I still want to go back and play more BFV.

Then you must not be encountering the game-breaking bugs right now. My game pretty much crashes every round since new patch. Not to mention the invisible solider crap.

I have encountered the invisible soliders, but its not that big of a deal.  So many long time battlefield players seem to forget just how bad BF4 was for over a year after launch, yet its now considered one of the best battlefield games.  Having stuck through BF4 is the same reason I'm sticking with BFV, because in the end it will be a good Battlefield game.

Wow how kind of them to fix their bugs now instead of saving them for later like the fixes for all the others. They opted to give us our face paints back. How generous.

I think most of us have been patient with the development process but there are no more excuses anymore. I'm sick of the two steps forward ten steps back. It is downright silly to expect a consumer/gamer to wait for a game to be full developed a year after the initial, official release. If this was a year long BFV beta, I would understand. But this game is not polished 9 months after release and continues to disappoint anyone who expects more from an AAA franchise who would rather cut corners and focus on stupid ass in-game currency/cosmetics instead of critical issues at hand. I enjoy the game when it works too, @Col-Squirrel, but let's be real about the current state of this game.

Okay it's time to dispel this BF4 argument. I personally did not forget anything. To suggest we have a selective memory is a week deflection, but nice try. First the date of  BF4 release was OCT 2013 ( 6 yrs ago ) when the tech was still very much evolving. It is very true the launch was f-ing terrible,it was so bad they had a couple of class action law suits filed against EA. They relatively quickly deployed the CTE ( Apr 2014 ) to address tickrate and net code issues. So they were actively  working to identify the issues , and improve the game. It did take est 8 months to really start to improve. The game consistently got better. With respect to the real difference between these 2 BF titles. I will cite them ---China Rising  ( DEC 3 , 2013 ) ,   Second Assault ( FEB 18 , 2014 )  ,  Naval Strike ( Mar 31 , 2014 )  ,  Dragons Teeth  ( JULY 15, 2014 ) were all released by this time in the BF4 cycle. That is 26 total maps in the same time period we are currently at with BFV---Content Content Content. I also enjoy BFV for only 1 reason..Playing with friends/members,including you Col Squirrel. I respect that some enjoy this game , many have left quite a while ago.  There is no comparison to BF4 , quite the opposite.
