All,
I have a pretty old buffalo nas I've been using for quite some time. I got this several years ago, before I was really into hosting my own servers and it has no redundancy. I keep putting off replacing it, but I think its getting to the point where I really need to get it replaced so I dont have to worry about the data loss.
As a fun project, I'm thinking about going with an odriod solution. Using an cloud shell, with an odriod, hosting crushftp for the web UI and SFTP for large file transfers as necessary. All will be hosted on centos in a 128gb EMCC storage. Setup raid using linux mbd and two 4gb drives.
While my knowledge in Linux is fairly low, I love the opportunities when they come up at work, and look forward to building this.
Another idea was just to go with Drobo, but I'm not sure how fun I would have using their proprietary os. I also wouldn't get to piece it together in the same fashion, though I understand it might be more reliable. Any feedback is appreciated as I may just be getting overly excited over this.
